Rafael M (a.k.a DJ Rafael Mesa) was the co-owner of the iconic LA-Based American DJ shop Prime Cuts Records in Hollywood for 15 years. Prime Cuts was the first store to open on the West Coast dedicated exclusively dance music.
From 1994-2008, DJ Rafael Mesa was a resident staple, holding court at many of LA’s largest gay clubs and parties including Rage, Factory, The Abbey, Probe, Red Eye After hours, Arena, Circus Disco, Here Bari, and The Palace. After closing Prime Cuts in 2002 as so many did after the aftermath of Napster and other file-sharing piracy sites, Mesa started the indie dance label (Fresh Music LA) and had 4 releases chart on Billboard Club Play chart as well as having a # 1 Billboard Club Play single with Erin Hamilton “Control Yourself.” Rafael transitioned into production, remixing, and mastering, where 15 of his remixes for labels like Tommy Boy, Music Plant Group, and Knock Out Fashion charted Top 20 on the Billboard dance charts.
Now relocated to Palm Springs, California where he’s a resident for the weekly and monthly parties Bunker and Daddy Issues, Mesa continues to produce solo singles on Groove Nation Music and remixes for such iconic America house & Tech House labels including Swishcraft Music, Carrillio Music, and Rye 51.
